Monday, Already?

One day I will have a weekend when I can come home from work and do nothing but lounge around until time for work on Monday. However, that is not the case today. It was fun though...

Friday night Brad and I went back to Beef O'Brady's with some friends. Then I made a quick trip to Wally World to buy a Shepherd's Hook. I am rigging a contraption to hang my bug zapper. We have a terrible bug problem in Hinkle and I plan on zapping as many as I can- or until Brad gets tired of emptying out the zapper.

Saturday I went to Tupelo with a friend! Finally a day of shopping! We visited the mall, Old Navy and Hobby Lobby. I picked up this shirt, a few of these (in pink shag, purple drama, and sassafras- I already had white), two pairs of jeans, a pair of earrings for the green shirt, and another shirt, but I can't find it on the website. I also got a picture and picture frame from Hobby Lobby. I think it was a very good day! Brad worked from 7am-7pm on a roof all day. Honestly, he didn't come down off of the roof all day long. There were 4 men working so at least he wasn't alone. We went to a friend's restuarant that night and got in bed early.

Sunday was great! After church and groceries and a baby shower (for twin girls!) we worked on the house! Brad finished hanging the molding and I moved some of the furniture in. I was so glad to get that big step accomplished. After Brad finished working he went to Tupelo to do instrument training with his instructor. Tacos for supper, but I won't even go into the weird dreams I had ALL night long. No more tacos after 830pm... ever.

I've bored you enough already so get back to work!

Small Town Living

I had three errands to run on my one hour lunch break today. I leave work, hop in the car and start driving to my first destination. I come to a 4-way stop and make my complete stop, take my foot off the brake and start applying it to the gas pedal when a truck hauling a trailer pulls out in front of me. The man didn't even do a "pause-and-go"!! This aggravated me, but I've come to realize that there are very few people in this town that know what '4-Way Stop' means.

So I follow the man to the next stop light. It's red so I'm sitting there waiting on it to turn to green- it does, but the man doesn't go. I can see that he's texting or doing something on his cell phone. I wait as long as I can then I blew/honked my horn. There was a police officer next to us, but I did it anyway. He still doesn't go; then the car behind me blew/honked his horn. The man still didn't go. Then the guy just lays on his horn. Apparently the goofy driver has hearing trouble. Finally he looked up and started going after the light changed to yellow. I

'm not sure what the police officer could have done, but I was thinking he might do something! After that I went to Sonic and got my sweet tea! Things are much better now.

Friday Five

It's finally Friday...

Quick update: My sweet hubs hung the crown molding in the 2ND bedroom this week and helped me paint the baseboard molding. I hope to get it installed this weekend! I checked around for ideas about the broken window we have and it will be cheaper/easier to just replace the entire window rather than replacing the broken glass. Hopefully that will get worked into the schedule too!

Brad had plans to go to Arkansas this weekend to work on his club-house he has with some of his friends, but he just found out he will be working in town tomorrow.

Now it's time for...

Friday Five
1. I have been wanting sweet tea from Sonic all week long; however I'm also trying to go all week with no caffeine. I made it all week and today I decided I would allow myself ONE drink- my sweet tea from Sonic. I went straight there at lunch, placed my order, and waited. The carhop brought me my drink and I drove off. I took a huge gulp and it was PEACH TEA. I almost spit it out in my car! It's not that bad, but it's definitely not what I wanted!
2. I have weird ears- not sure how to describe them. I have never been able to wear any type of ear piece or ear bud in my left ear; it just doesn't fit comfortably.
3. Not a day goes by that I don't talk to my mom. Most days we talk several times. I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't...
4. I started back meeting my friend, Mr. Treadmill, this week. Luckily, I got a huge blister on my right heel on Tuesday so I've had to go easy the last two days. :)
5. I'm shopping this weekend; I don't care if I have to drive to Memphis or Tupelo by myself. I'm going. I've been trying for weeks now, but things keep coming up. I need "me" time!

Ok, if you've been patient/bored enough to read through these I hope you have a fantastic weekend!!

Just another Manic Monday...

Where do I begin? How much do you really want to know about my weekend? Do you want to know about the cook-out we had at a friend's house on Friday? Or that I went grocery shopping with my mom on Saturday (HUGE mistake)? Or do you want to know about Sunday/Father's Day? Let's start there...

9:30 Leave for church
10:00-12:00 church- I was lucky enough to have Children's church by myself.
12:30-2:30 Lunch at my grandmother's. I made the Apple Blueberry Crunch. I'm seriously addicted to this stuff. I would like to thank Southern Living in Advance for these last "few" pounds I'm trying to work off. Back to where I was....
2:30-3:30 Visit with dad and mom
4:00 Home to check on Amos and let Brad get his truck.
5:00 Meet a friend to go to a visitation-- it was so sad to see Bethany; she had only been married about 6 weeks when her husband suddenly died on a business trip 1,000 miles away. I can't imagine what she's going through.
7:45 Meet back up with Brad and his parents, brother, and sister to have a nice Father's Day dinner at a local steakhouse.
10:00 Home at last....
This week will consist of painting the crown molding/trim and finish getting it installed. I also plan on cleaning my house (again) and getting everything finished for the weekend. Brad's planning on going out of town this weekend and I have lots of ideas for things to keep me busy.
Pictures! I finally uploaded some pictures from our family vacation last week.
Don't you just love that view?

And this one too?

And what about this one?

On our last night there, a huge storm blew in. Luckily we were already in our room so we had a good view! Chloe is terrified of storms. She kept saying "LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!" This picture is just priceless! :) Please excuse my grandmother's green flip flops with her brown leopard attire. She had worn those shoes to the pool that day and still had her swimsuit on under the outfit! Ha! It finally moved in over the water...

And then it was gone...

And she was happy again... :)
If you are wondering... yes, we did get off the balcony. We lounged by the pool, in the sand, went shopping, etc... On our first night there my sister lost her cell phone so I refused to take my camera to the beach, pool, or anywhere I couldn't hang on to it. My family took some good pictures so maybe before next year I'll get theirs posted!

Friday Five -- Times Two

TGIF!

That's really all I can say (or type). I absolutely loved being on vacation, but coming back to work has been a little stressful. A lot of work can pile up in three days. I am almost caught up- just in time for the weekend! Yesterday was full of bad news- news of two young men taking their own lives; news of a high school friend losing her husband six weeks after getting married; news of a friend's father getting bad news about cancer spreading throughout his body... I'm sick of bad news. If anyone knows any good news, tell me... I need to hear something good for a change! Ok, so I only have one person reading my blog, but still.... :)

I wasn't around a laptop or internet last week so I didn't get to do my Friday Five-- so I'll do it twice today. That's if I can think of 10 things.

Friday Five (Take One)
1. I think my dog, Amos, gained 5 pounds and grew 3 inches while I was gone. He's got to be close to 130lbs by now.

2. Chloe had her last t-ball game and played very well. I think she was glad it was over. It's crazy to have all those 3 & 4 year olds out facing the hot sun for an hour.

3. I went grocery shopping Tuesday and spent a whopping $44. Yep, we have almost starved ourselves this week. Not intentionally-- just wasn't in the mood to buy groceries when I went.

4. I've been letting my hair grow out for over a year now. Everyday I think I will cut it off, but then talk myself out of it. I would love to let it get long enough to donate to Locks of Love, but I doubt it will get that long (11 inches). Pantene accepts it at 8 inches. That's more reasonable for me. My hair grows soooooooooo slow- even with taking hair vitamins.

5. Everyday Brad and I take turns taking Amos to my mother-in-law's house. They live very close to town so it's easier to have him there. I am so thankful for that because I would hate to drive back home everyday at lunch to let him out.

Friday Five (Take Two)

1. I bought a Bumpit the other day. A friend/coworker had the cutest "hair-do" the other day and she let me in on her secret-- the bumpit! I have yet to make it look right, but I'm still trying. I'm just not in the habit of teasing my hair.

2. I keep my checkbook balanced to the penny- I have no idea what I will do if I ever leave the bank.

3. Now that all of my friends are married- they're all having babies! Babies everywhere! I had a friend have her little girl about two weeks ago and I've got another friend scheduled for a c-section next week. Don't worry- Brad and I plan on waiting for a long time before we think about kids.

4. I hope to do a little shopping this weekend, but I'm not sure if it will happen or not. I also want to work on the 2nd bedroom, but Brad will probably be busy all day and I can't hang crown molding by myself! :)

5. It's already the middle of June and I have yet to have a snow cone! I love snow cones and plan on getting one soon! Soon as in this weekend!

This isn't a 6th one, but I have yet to upload any of my vacation pictures. I promise to get that done this weekend. Have a great Father's Day!!!

Sunshine & Summertime

Whew! A lot has been going on since my last post. I spent the first part of last week packing and cleaning and getting ready for Florida!! It was our second annual summer family vacation. We've gone to the Smoky Mountains every winter for the last 10-12 years and last year we started a summer vacation. Only the ladies in my family go (plus my 10 year old cousin, John Aaron). We loaded down the vehicles and left out early Thursday morning- not as early as planned though. We made it to Panama City Beach, FL about 6pm Thursday afternoon. Before you think "why on earth would they go to a party town?" let me tell you that we stayed on the "outskirts" of town. We were surrounded by families and small children in our condo.

Until our stay, my niece Chloe had been almost terrified of water. She would get in the pool, but would want to hold on to someone. At the condo she would jump in, splash, play in the 5' deep water. Chloe definitely had the best time in the pool. She also enjoyed playing at the beach (the dry sand) but not the ocean (wet sand). That's how she distinguished between the two. Last year she thought the beach/ocean/sand was Florida so every time we went back to the condo or to eat she would want to "go back to Florida".

We shopped at the new Pier Park. Last year some stores were open, but this year it is complete. I enjoyed the shopping, but it was super crowded!

We drove back Monday morning- early- for Chloe's tee-ball game at 5:30 and John Aaron's game at 6pm. It was Chloe's last game so after it was over she got a trophy and a certificate. She was so proud. I took a few pictures, but I haven't uploaded them yet. After the game mother dropped me off at a friends house. Brad and some of his hunting buddies were having a duck club meeting. I finally got home around 10 that night- the first time since early Thursday morning. I'm still working on cleaning and picking up, but I made major progress yesterday.

I'll post pictures hopefully this weekend!

Have a great rest-of-the-week! :)

What a Weekend!

5pm Friday couldn't get here fast enough! I drove back home from Oxford and unpacked; then Brad and I headed to Corinth to try out a new restaurant-- Beef O'Brady's. I had the BBQ burger and Brad ordered the Philly Steak and Cheese. Both were yummy! We're both happy that the restaurant opened. There's not much to choose from in Corinth- especially after getting spoiled in Oxford! We also stopped by Wal-Mart so Brad could get a new Metallica CD. We don't have much in common when it comes to music!

Saturday was busy. Our alarm went off at 6:30am! Brad went to work to scrap units and take to the recycling center and I started cleaning the house (more proof that we're getting older!). We left around lunch going to Tupelo. Brad was meeting his instructor for a flight lesson then we were going shopping. We spent about three hours in the mall and all I got was a purse! Brad lucked out with several things though so it was worth it. After the mall (and Sbarro's) we headed back home. We stopped at a friend's house for a few minutes and it was nice seeing some old friends. We didn't get in bed until 1am!! I am not a night owl- much more the early bird so this wasn't easy for me.

Sunday was just as busy! After going to the early service at church we went grocery shopping then came home to work around the house. I finally got curtains hung in the living room and in the laundry room!! Thanks babe! We also cleaned out the guest bedroom and I hope that we can get the crown molding hung within a week or so. We might have that room livable by the end of the month. After all of the work was finished we smoked (ok, Brad smoked) some BBQ chicken. We had two couples over and I made Apple-Blueberry Crunch for them. Here's the recipe:

Apple Blueberry Crunch
1 21oz apple pie filling
1 14oz package frozen blueberries
1 cup sugar
1 18.25oz white cake mix
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
Ice cream or whipped topping

Spread apple pie filling on bottom of a 13x9 greased dish.
Toss together blueberries and 3/4 cup sugar in a bowl, and spoon over apple pie filling.
Sprinkle cake mix evenly over fruit, and drizzle with melted butter.
Sprinkle with chopped walnuts and remaining 1/4 cup sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Serve with ice cream.

Brad isn't a huge walnut fan so I used pecans instead- I didn't toast them though. Make sure to spread the remaining sugar and melted butter over the entire area. This was DELICIOUS. I plan on making it a lot this summer! I'm sure it's "healthy" since it has apples and blueberries and I used FF/SF ice cream! HA!

Chloe had another t-ball game last night. It was so hot that the little kids didn't want to get out on the field and stand in the sun. We saw a few meltdowns, including Chloe!
I'm leaving for Florida Thursday morning and it can't come soon enough!
